Getting into collecting farm toys

Many people are passionate about collecting different types of toys. Vehicles are a favourite among many collectors, particularly cars, trains, and trucks. Less popular but still with a loyal fanbase, tractors and other farm toys are a great option too. We want to have a closer look at them here to give you some advice if you want to get into collecting them.

Why collect them?

Some people choose to collect toy tractors and other farm machines because they use the real things. What could be better than smaller versions of the ones you use regularly? You can keep them in pristine condition in the boxes.

Other people collect these toys for nostalgia. You might have had the exact same ones when you were young, but broke or got rid of them since then. Collecting them can be a wonderful way to look back on the fun times you had playing with them.

Another main reason people love to collect toys is to celebrate previous generations. You may get some old ones that parents or grandparents loved. This can inspire you to begin a collection to add to them and feel the connection.

What to look for?

One of the best things about farm toys is actually hunting down the ones you want. Some are easy to find, including new models of recent vehicles. We have some of them here, including fantastic accurate ones by Bruder. They are one of the biggest names in the industry, making toy tractors from famous brands like John Deere, Massey Ferguson, and New Holland.

Older, classic toys are always harder to find. The problem with many of them is children actually played with them. So, there are far fewer of them left than were actually made. If you want originals, you need to put in the time to search. Toy shows and auctions can be great. Antique shops, car boot sales, and even charity shops can be good targets too. Online shopping platforms are an option, but always be careful as you can’t accurately judge the authenticity and condition.

The Holy Grail for many collections is antique toys in the original packaging. They are usually rarest because children at the time just tore into the packages and parents got rid of the rubbish. However, even if the box is in rough condition, it can be worth a surprising amount.

One of the best things about collecting though is there is a really passionate community. It brings people together to celebrate the hobby.

Do you want to order farm toys?

JS Hubbuck Ltd has some lovely toys because we really love the farming industry in the UK. We’ve been working in it for generations. We celebrate that by offering scale models of vehicles that people actually use. They are fun to play with, wonderful if you want to teach children about farming, and can be great to collect too.
