Wellingtons

Where can you wear wellies?

Did you know that wellies date back to early in the 19th century? They were originally designed as an alternative to Hessian boots. It was harder to wear the knee high soft calfskin boots with lightweight linen trousers, especially when riding a horse. So, the Wellington boot was born, with a lower cut and forgoing the typical tassel decoration. Wellingtons became incredibly popular, both among soldiers and the fashion conscious.

Today, over 200 years later, wellies are still a really popular type of footwear. In fact, you can wear them in numerous different places. We want to have a look at this today to show why they are fantastic, multi-use boots.

Farming

Wellington boots are still a mainstay in the agricultural industry. They are great for days working in fields, barns, stables, and more. Crucially, they ensure the feet are dry, warm, and have protection. Good soles provide slip protection and you can work around mud, fertiliser, and much more without concerns.

Gardening

Many of the things that make wellingtons great for farming also make them a top choice for gardening. They’ll keep feet dry and safe. Crucially, they can ensure you have good traction and won’t slip and fall.

Hiking

The UK has some really beautiful spots for hikes and walks. Choosing the right footwear is important though. You need to be ready for all kinds of conditions, including thick mud. Wellies are a good choice for various trails. You’ll be especially thankful if it suddenly starts to rain and turns the ground into a bog.

Beach days

A trip to the beach can be a great idea, whether it is a day out with the family or a short trip to walk the dog. You might want to get some good boots though. They are great for walking on the sand and ensure you don’t get a lot of it in your shoes.

Festivals

We love a festival in the UK. There are events for all kinds of things, from music to film, comedy to cooking. There are some huge names as well as smaller, niche festivals. Wellingtons can be a good idea for many of these events, especially if the venue is a farm or field. A bit of rain here and it can quickly turn a festival site into a mire. You’ll be glad you had some good boots so it is easier to walk around.

A night out

Surprisingly, wellies have also become an interesting fashion choice. The stigma of them being just for working or muddy activities is long gone. In fact, we’ve seen royals and celebrities wearing them fashionably. So, don’t be surprised to see some on nights out. There are more options than ever today in terms of colour and style. As a result, they can work with various outfits.
