It was harder to wear the knee high soft calfskin boots with lightweight linen trousers, especially when riding a horse. So, the Wellington boot was born, with a lower cut and forgoing the typical tassel decoration. Wellingtons became incredibly popular, both among soldiers and the fashion conscious.
