Rather than being passive, they want their children to engage and be active thinkers, idea dreamers, problem solvers, and creators. Is there enough space?

Next, consider whether the children have a clear space to play with their toys. This may seem like a silly question, but having some sort of open, empty area is vital for children to have space to explore, build, imagine, and be kids. We’re not on about massive spaces, just a bit of floor space in a room where they have freedom and room to move. Even if your other spaces aren’t as clean, try keeping at least one open area in your house clear. If you lack an area like this, consider making an open space in one room. Have a goal to keep it clear and open to encourage open-ended play.

Lastly, ask whether your children know what their options are. The “out of sight out of mind” principle does apply to toys. Even though we have a habit of piling them in drawers, boxes, and bins, this makes it harder for kids to know their options. Not only this, it normally makes a larger mess daily since kids must take all their toys out to find one.
